Chief Information Officer Shawn Riley today congratulated ten North Dakota students who received national recognition by the National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT), as well as Valley City State University student Shane Hitch who was a top-five finisher in a Capture the Flag cybersecurity competition hosted by NICERC, the National Integrated Cyber Education Research Center. The CTF was held in conjunction with the first-of-its-kind technology focused, multi-industry career expo, Dakota Strike, scheduled for April 8 at the Fargodome, which was cancelled due to COVID-19.
Tufte amends order to quarantine for individuals returning to North Dakota

State Health Officer Mylynn Tufte today amended an order originally signed on March 28 directing individuals to quarantine for 14 days if traveling back to North Dakota from all international locations and states in the United States. In addition, Tufte also clarified an order relating to individuals who have tested positive for COVID-19.
“As COVID-19 continues to spread across North Dakota, staying home as much as possible continues to be one of the best ways to reduce your exposure to COVID-19,” said Tufte.

Chief Information Security Officer Kevin Ford and State Superintendent Kirsten Baesler today alerted the public to new cybersecurity threats tied to video conferencing platforms, like Zoom, which are becoming increasingly popular given the global increase in remote work and learning environments. North Dakota Information Technology’s Cyber Operations Center has also issued a security risk assessment and associated guidelines for video conferencing platforms that can be accessed at this link.

Insurance Commissioner Jon Godfread today announced the issuance of seven bulletins in response to executive orders made by Governor Doug Burgum and in the interest of protecting North Dakotans during the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic. North Dakota Department of Health reports first death related to COVID-19

The North Dakota Department of Health (NDDoH) today reported the first confirmed death of a North Dakota resident due to COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus. The death occurred in a man in his 90s from Cass County who had underlying health conditions and acquired COVID-19 through community spread, meaning the source of infection was unknown.

On March 24, 2020, Governor Doug Burgum signed an Executive Order removing spring weight restrictions on state highways. This order will result in purchasers receiving a refund on permits for ton mile fees on spring weight restrictions for loads starting on or after March 24. Haulers who purchased an oversize permit with a start date of March 24, 2020 or later, that incurred ton mile fees due to spring weight restrictions will automatically receive a refund. Six individuals have a history of travel and two individuals are community spread. With recent cases of 2019 novel coronavirus being reported in several countries, including the U.S., North Dakota health officials are working in collaboration with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to monitor the situation. There are no suspect or confirmed cases in North Dakota at this time. So far in the United States there have been five people from four states reported to be infected. No fatalities have been reported and all five people had traveled to the Wuhan area.
